Buoyed by its success in North America, BFGoodrich decided to take on the world's most famous off-road event, the Dakar Rally. Driving a Renault-powered buggy equipped with BFGoodrich tires, Jean-Louis Schlesser won the two-wheel drive category in the 1993 Dakar as well as in the FIA Cross Country World Cup, before taking overall honours – again with BFGoodrich – in the 1999 Dakar.
BFGoodrich has since won the North African marathon seven time and six further times in association with its partner Mitsubishi. Meanwhile, in 2007, the Volkswagen Race Touareg/BFGoodrich of Carlos Sainz sew up the FIA Cross Country World Cup.

In 2008, BFGoodrich will continue to partner Mitsubishi, Volkswagen, Schlesser, BMW and a long list of privateer entries both in the Dakar and in the FIA Cross Country World Cup.
