BFGoodrich targeting a 14th straight win

Official Baja 500 partner BFGoodrich is targeting its 14th consecutive win in this off-road race which traverses the Baja California. The event boasts a 275-strong entry and starts in Ensenada on Saturday June 6.

The route of the 41st Tecate SCORE Baja 500 forms a 432.51-mile/700km loop through the Baja California in Mexico which competitors will contest in a clockwise direction. Following the start on the peninsula's west coast in Ensenada, competitors will head for Ojos Negros, then El Alama before climbing to an altitude of more than 1,500 metres, dropping back down to Laguna Salada and returning to Ensanada. The varied route includes rough, sandy, rocky and dust-covered portions, and the maximum allotted time to cover the 700km is 20 hours, although the front-runners are likely to take around nine hours to complete the distance.

BFGoodrich runners monopolised the podium of the 2008 event thanks to their BFGoodrich Baja T/A® KR tyres. The tyre brand also took eight class wins at the end of an event which is likely to be remembered for a long time to come, since the top-two finishers – B.J. Baldwin and Mark Post – were split be a mere seven seconds after 441 miles of competitive motoring!

Chevy Silverado/BFGoodrich driver BJ Baldwin will be looking for a repeat of his winning performance this time round and, after the start-order draw at the end of May, he will run third on the road behind his rival Mark Post (Ford F-150/BFGoodrich). The first of the 24 Trophy-Trucks entered for the event will set out from Ensenada's Convention Center at 10am on Saturday June 6.

BFGoodrich will provide technical assistance (fitment and stripping of tyres, advice) to its partners at three service points along the route. More than 100,000 spectators are expected in the Baja California to follow what stands out as one of the world's longest-standing off-road competitions.
