Adam Gould tests the Peugeot/BFGoodrich

A special test session yesterday in Scotland gave Adam Gould, the fifth and final driver to represent the BFGoodrich Drivers Team in 2009, his first chance to sample the BFGoodrich-equipped Peugeot 207 S2000 he will drive this weekend on the closing round of this year's Intercontinental Rally Challenge.

Following his selection by a panel made up of British journalists and representatives of the MSA, BFGoodrich and Kronos Racing at a special meeting in London earlier this month, 22-year old Adam Gould was given his first chance to test the Peugeot 207 S2000/BFGoodrich he will campaign on the stages of this weekend's RAC MSA Rally of Scotland.

The rising English star will benefit from a particularly competitive package when he takes on fellow Brits Kris Meeke (the 2009 IRC champion), Guy Wilks and Alister McRae. However, before launching into the Scottish forest stages, Gould was able to profit from a special test organised by BFGoodrich and Kronos Racing.

"Adam's mission during today's test was to get a feel for the car and acquaint himself with the BFGoodrich tyres he will be able to choose from in Scotland this weekend," reported BFGoodrich's IRC technician Michel Ducher who attended the test. "After the usual tips and recommendations, Adam went out for several runs with the soft compound BFGoodrich GZG4."

Unfortunately, the session was brought to a premature halt because of an engine problem, although the Bristol-based youngster still covered 70 kilometres as he took time to familiarise himself with his BFGoodrich-equipped Peugeot 207 S2000. Meanwhile, the engine will be rebuilt by Kronos Racing's mechanics in time for Thursday evening's start.

"I was surprised by the amount of grip it gave," enthused Adam Gould. "It was absolutely chucking it down this afternoon, and that made the going extremely muddy and slippery, yet the grip delivered by my tyres and the handling of the Peugeot were both exceptional! There's a good chance the conditions on Day 1 of the rally will be similar to those we encountered today, so I'm feeling pretty confident."
